DIY Hair Mask to Help Soften and Grow Hair
Share
If you're like me, you've probably gone through your fair share of hair struggles. For years, I bleached my hair and, after having three kids, not only did I lose a ton of hair, but what was left was damaged and constantly breaking. It was a bit disheartening, to say the least. However, I’m excited to share a DIY hair mask that I’ve been making for a while now, and it’s completely transformed my hair. It looks healthier, feels softer, and I’ve even noticed that my hair is thicker!
I was feeling stuck and unsure where to turn when I came across a recipe from the well-known herbalist Barbara O'Neil. Her approach to natural remedies caught my attention, especially her recipe for hair growth and strength. After trying it out myself, I couldn't be more pleased with the results. So, I wanted to share it with you.
DIY Hair Mask Recipe:
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup of fresh rosemary or 20 drops of rosemary essential oil (I like to use both for added benefits)
- 1/2 cup of castor oil
- 1/2 cup of coconut oil
- Hair Applicator
Instructions:
-
If you're using fresh rosemary: Start by heating the castor oil and coconut oil in a small pan. Heat them for about 30 minutes with the fresh rosemary to infuse the oils with its powerful properties. You don't want the mixture to boil just warm
-
Strain the oil mixture through a sieve into a jar to remove the fresh rosemary once the mixture has cooled.
-
If you're just using rosemary essential oil, simply mix the oils together—no heating necessary.
-
Storage Tip: During cooler months, coconut oil can solidify. If that happens, you can warm the mixture slightly before application. Be sure to stir or shake the oils together before applying them to ensure they’re properly blended. Store in a dry cool location away from the sun.
-
How to Apply: Massage the mixture into your hair, starting from the roots and working your way to the ends. Leave the mask on for 10-30 minutes, depending on how much time you have. I use it once a week. I have just picked up this applicator and brush. i use the brush to massage my scalp when I shower
-
Rinse: After the time has passed, simply wash and shampoo your hair as usual.
Why This Mask Works:
- Rosemary: Known for stimulating hair growth and improving circulation to the scalp, rosemary helps thicken and strengthen hair, while also promoting overall health.
- Castor Oil: Packed with ricinoleic acid, castor oil helps moisturize the scalp and promote hair growth, making it the perfect addition for healthier hair.
- Coconut Oil: Rich in essential fatty acids, coconut oil deeply nourishes and conditions the hair, preventing breakage and providing shine.
My Results:
Since I started using this mask regularly, my hair has felt so much softer and healthier. I’ve also noticed less hair breakage and thicker hair growth! It’s been a game-changer, and I’m thrilled to share it with you.
